With wide-eyed enthusiasm they have taken an array of classes during the winter quarter and thoroughly soaked up the Pacific Northwest’s winter splendor.

    Western has announced its Spring 2019 youth programs, and Computer Science Club, Kids Night Out @ Western and GEMS Academy are quickly approaching. Participants can enjoy education, recreation, access to unique and specialized labs and university resources in the following spring programs:

    WWU Assistant Professor of Environmental Sciences Jenise Bauman and two of her students are working this winter and spring on a monitoring project at Port Orchard’s Harper’s Creek estuary, at the site of an $8 million two-phase restoration effort led by Kitsap County and the state Dept. of Ecology.

    Harper’s Creek is a small but important estuary on the southeast shore of Kitsap County. The site of a former brick factory, the estuary has important value for fish and wildlife and is used recreationally, and as a boat launch.

    Western Washington University’s Asia University America Program (AUAP) will officially welcome 35 students to campus at a Welcome Ceremony Friday, March 1 from 3:30-5 p.m. in MH 152.  

    This event is free and open to the public.

    Western Washington University Youth Programs invites girls of all ages and their families to participate in GEMS Fair (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science) on Saturday, Feb. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. in Western’s Academic West building.

    Western Washington University is embarking on a new brand campaign, called “Make Waves,” which launched on Jan. 22 with billboards, print and digital media concentrated in the Seattle metro area.
