Philippine Islands From the Beginning: A History

This class provides an overview of interesting aspects of Philippine history with its unique blend of culture and politics. Participants will explore the world, 400-plus years ago, when Europe was competing to discover new lands. Learn about the country prior to European discovery, Spain’s discovery, colonization, and rule, revolts of the Filipinos and heritage from Spain. The class also reflects upon the United States war against Spain, the Filipino-American war, Americanization of the Philippines, Japan’s invasion, World War II, and the political conditions from 1946 to 2014.
