Revisiting World Mythologies: A Global Overview of Mythic Tales, Patterns, and Archetypes

This course investigates cross-cultural patterns of world myths including the gods and goddesses of earth and sky; the cycle of the hero; the trickster; the creation, destruction and renewal of the world.  We will discuss myths as potent forces in literature and the arts today, as well as in everyday life. Universal mythic themes, motifs and archetypes will be revealed and participants will learn to recognize these references in modern day literature and film.
