Ocean STEM Anacortes: Spring

The Ocean STEM after school program is presented in partnership between the Anacortes School District and Western Washington University’s Shannon Point Marine Center.

Students will experience hands-on science, engineering and technology activities at Anacortes Middle School.  Instruction is based on the Next Generation Science Standards. Youth program participants and staff must abide by all University regulations and program rules.

Courses

Build and operate an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle – ROV! Students will work in teams to design, assemble and test a company ROV. Students will:

  • Choose your team’s research project.
  • Build a ROV to facilitate specifications of the research project.
  • Take turns working as the director of research, project manager, designer, and engineer.
  • Test the ROV at Fidalgo pool on the last day.

Instructors: Kyle Dewitt and Paul Warmhoven

Students are asked to bring:

  • A curious mind
  • A healthy snack
  • A water bottle

Cancellation Policy

All classes and programs are self-sustaining and subject to minimum enrollments. Cancellations must be made seven days in advance of the session and must be submitted in writing through youth@wwu.edu. Refunds are available to those who have registered for the 7 session package, less a $25 handling fee.
