Each KNOW session will feature a unique science theme for your child to explore.
February 23 – Exploring Echinoderms
Learn about extraordinary echinoderms (sea stars, brittle stars, sand dollars, sea cucumbers, sea urchins and more!) Learn about echinoderm structure, diversity and what makes them best suited for their habitats. Build your own echinoderm out of clay to take home at the end of the night. Kids will also get a chance to look at Shannon Point Marine Center’s local invertebrates and identify which ones are echinoderms.
April 20 - What Makes a Mollusk
Have you wondered why and how a mud clam and an octopus are related? Do you love nudibranchs? Don’t know what the difference is between an arm and a tentacle? No problem! Come to SPMC to discover what a mollusk is and isn’t! Learn the differences between Gastropods, Bivalves and Cephalopods with a chance to meet some. Students will discover the features that define mollusks as a whole and what distinguishes each group with an opportunity to create their own model mollusk and compare it to some real life marine invertebrates.
Instructors: Bobbi Bevacqua and Molly Sutton
Students are asked to bring:
