Day 1: Challenge Program – Low and High Course Elements
All students will begin their WILD experience by getting to know one another at Western’s Challenge Course. They will begin with initial group activities in our game field progressing to the low course elements as they continue to develop trust and teamwork, setting the tone for a supportive group environment. They will finish the day by participating in one of the high course elements testing their leadership and teamwork skills to get them to the top!
Day 2: Lakewood Introduction to Sailing
Students will get to learn basics of sailing and embark on a tour of Lake Whatcom with the knowledgeable instructors of the Lakewood Watersports Facility and Outdoor Center Trip Leaders. While out on the sail they will have the opportunity to continue to develop relationships with other group members and test out their basic sailing knowledge.
Day 3: Lakewood Water Sports
Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of and test out any of the following watersports including: stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, and kayaking.
Day 4: Day of Service
Students will participate in a day of service as they join the Outback: a 5 acre organic farm and wetland restoration site on Western’s campus. This farm serves community and educational purposes, and donates some of the produce grown to the Bellingham Food Bank. Students will have the chance to learn about the importance of building community and giving back to others in need through hands on work in sustainable agriculture.
Day 5: Fragrance Lake Hike
We will celebrate the week with an afternoon of exploration! They will get the chance to hike and explore some local trails while trying out their leadership skills. This is sure to be a fun-filled day to cap off an adventure-filled week!
Students are asked to bring:
- Water bottle
- Hearty and healthy snack
- Closed toed shoes
- Clothing appropriate for outdoor activities
Instructors will inform of specific items to bring on a daily basis.
